One person is dead as a result of being shot by a law enforcement officer after a pursuit in Cumberland County Tuesday, April 17th. According to the Fayette County Coroner, 40 year old Charles Whitley died Thursday, April 19th, at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington from a gunshot wound received while being pursued by law enforcement after allegedly refusing to pull over after an attempted stop by a deputy with the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office. The pursuit ended when Whitley’s car crashed into the deputy’s car. Thus far authorities have not said exactly when the gunshot that struck Whitley was fired or which law enforcement agency the officer that fired the fatal shot was with. A female passenger in the Whitley car was not injured and was arrested on outstanding warrants. No law enforcement officers were injured.
